Apparently people go on holiday ☕☀️
I know this because, after a few years of saying “maybe next year”, I’m finally disappearing off to Nice in the south of France to see my Auntie for a week or so.
Which, if I’m honest, still feels slightly irresponsible.
Not because I don’t trust the team — quite the opposite — but because when you run a small business, you get very used to constantly being around. Checking things. Answering questions. Moving things slightly to the left and then pretending that somehow helped.
At some point, “popping away” starts to feel like something other people do.
The team are looking forward to it more than me
To be fair, they’ve already started reassuring me that everything will be absolutely fine without me.
In fact, it’s been very kindly pointed out that the whole place apparently runs much smoother when I’m not there.
Which was lovely to hear.
All I can say is there definitely seems to be a suspiciously good atmosphere around here today and the team seem to be as happy as i’ve ever seen them 😃
Who’s going to put the fires out?
That said, I’m still not entirely convinced I know how to switch off properly.
There’s definitely a part of every small business owner that thinks if they disappear for a week or two, the whole thing might somehow collapse into chaos.
But honestly, I suspect absolutely nothing will happen at all.
The orders will still go out, the kettle will still be on, and I’ll probably realise the business doesn’t actually need me wandering around muttering “how hard can it be?” in the first place.
Which just means I’ll probably start planning to squeeze in a long weekend away later this year as well.
Until the kettle goes back on…
I’ll see you all in a couple of weeks — slightly over-brewed, slightly sunburnt (I hope), and with another mildly chaotic newsletter written at the very last minute.
Till then, may we all somehow manage to pick the sunniest week of the year for our holidays. Good luck everyone.
Cheers,
Nick and all The Interdelightful Crew 💫
