I do love a deadline… I like the sound they make when they go whooshing past ☕
Well, this didn’t take long.
A week into writing the Brews myself, and I’m already late.
Up until now, I could always rely on our much overworked IT/Digital Marketing/SEO/Customer Support/Emergency Packer guy to get these out on time. Reliable. Structured. Probably written at a sensible hour, with a clear head and a proper plan.
And now here we are.
I do love a deadline
I’ve always said I love a deadline. I like the focus it brings, the urgency, the sense that something needs doing.
But I also like the sound they make when they go whooshing past, which, as it turns out, is exactly what happened yesterday.
There’s something about that moment — when you realise you’re late, and all you can do is accept it, put the kettle on, and just get on with it — that feels oddly productive. Not ideal, of course, but I’m used to it. I tend to do some of my better work once the pressure has already passed and there’s nothing left to do but crack on.
Not a system I’d necessarily recommend… but it seems to work.
One week in…
To be fair, it has been one of those weeks.
A bit of everything. A bit of nothing. The usual mix of trying to stay on top of things while also starting a few new ones that probably didn’t need starting just yet.
Our oak counter has been moved (again), something’s been painted (again), and there’s been a fair amount of standing back and saying, “Rome wasn’t built in a day”, which is a phrase I seem to be using more than I’d like.
And somewhere in the middle of all that, I forgot I said I was doing the Brews.
Which, in hindsight, feels like something I probably should have written down.
Slightly late… but still here
So yes — a little late this week, but still here.
The shop’s still ticking over, things are still moving (even if slightly sideways at times), and the kettle is, as always, still doing it’s bit.
I’ll remember next week.
Probably.
Till then…
May your deadlines be forgiving, your timing just about acceptable, and your kettle always on when you need it.
Cheers,
Nick and all the Interdelightful Crew 💫
