What came first… the chicken 🐤 or the gin 🍸?
Well, in this case, the hen 🐔 actually came first.
Our April gin club boxes should have all safely arrived by now — just in time for Easter — and inside you’ll see we’ve headed to the award-winning Henstone Distillery in rural Shropshire, where we discovered their rather respectable 44.9% ABV Rosé Gin. A spirit with proper countryside roots and just a touch of quiet experimentation.
The name Henstone itself comes from the founders’ homes — one lived above a country pub called The Hen and Chickens, while the other lived just down the road at Stone House. Put the two together and, rather neatly, you get Henstone — which tells you most of what you need to know. Good ingredients, proper roots, and a distillery that lets time do its thing.
This gin begins life as a classic London Dry before spending time resting in new American oak casks — a process that helped it earn Best in Britain (International Category) at The Gin Guide Awards in 2023.
Now for the The first pour is bright and familiar — juniper, citrus, clean and crisp — before a gentle shift brings soft warmth, hints of vanilla and rounded spice, creating a smooth, layered finish where crisp gin character meets the quiet influence of the barrel — proof that sometimes letting a spirit take its time is well worth the wait.
